What is TRILIPIX?

TRILIPIX is a prescription medicine used in people with abnormal cholesterol levels to treat cholesterol in the blood by lowering the total amount of triglycerides and bad cholesterol (LDL), and increasing the good cholesterol (HDL). Medicines to manage high cholesterol should only be used when diet and exercise alone have not been enough. You should be on a low fat and low cholesterol diet while you take TRILIPIX.

How is TRILIPIX different from other fibrate cholesterol medications?

TRILIPIX is the first and only fibrate cholesterol medication that is FDA-approved to be used with a statin cholesterol medication to help improve the 3 main parts of cholesterol (good cholesterol, bad cholesterol, and triglycerides). TRILIPIX is a prescription medicine used along with diet to lower triglycerides and raise HDL (good) cholesterol in people at high risk of heart disease who have abnormal cholesterol levels and are taking a statin medicine to manage LDL (bad) cholesterol. TRILIPIX has not been shown to prevent heart attacks or stroke more than a statin alone.

How should I take TRILIPIX?

You should be on a low fat and low cholesterol diet while you take TRILIPIX. TRILIPIX should be taken once a day, with or without food, as prescribed by your doctor. TRILIPIX should be swallowed whole. If you take a statin cholesterol medication, you can take TRILIPIX and your statin at the same time of day.

How will I know if TRILIPIX is working?

See your doctor regularly to check your cholesterol and triglyceride levels and to check for side effects.

Can I use TRILIPIX if I'm taking other medications for cholesterol or other conditions?

Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements.

TRILIPIX can be used with the class of cholesterol medications called statins. Statins can cause muscle pain, tenderness or weakness, which may be symptoms of a rare but serious muscle condition called rhabdomyolysis. In some cases rhabdomyolysis can cause kidney damage and death. The risk of rhabdomyolysis may be higher when TRILIPIX is given with statins. If you take a statin, tell your doctor.

Other medicines or large amounts of grapefruit juice (more than a quart) may raise the levels of statins in your body, and could then raise the risk of muscle problems. Tell your doctor if you are taking the following medicines:

  • Heart medicine

  • Stomach medicine

  • Antibiotic

  • Anti-fungal

  • Cholesterol-lowering medicine

  • Hormones

  • HIV/AIDS medicine

  • Antidepressant

  • Immunosuppressant

  • Anti-seizure medicine

Also be sure to tell your doctor if you take any of the following medications:

  • Anticoagulants, also known as blood thinners (warfarin, Coumadin)

  • Bile acid resins

  • Cyclosporine

What are the possible side effects of TRILIPIX?

The most common side effects with TRILIPIX include headache, heartburn (indigestion), nausea, muscle aches, and increases in muscle or liver enzymes that are measured by blood tests. Tell your doctor if you have any side effect that bothers you or does not go away.

Rare, but serious side effects include muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness; tiredness and fever; abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting, which may be signs of inflammation (swelling) of the gall bladder or pancreas. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any of these serious side effects.

Who should not take TRILIPIX?

TRILIPIX should not be taken by people with liver, gallbladder, or severe kidney disease, nursing mothers, or those allergic to any product ingredient.

Can I afford TRILIPIX?

No one should have to go without medication prescribed by their physician due to financial considerations. You can receive a $15 rebate on your TRILIPIX prescription, plus you'll receive valuable information about other TRILIPIX savings and information about the product (for eligible patients only).
